We are pleased to announce the winners of our ANTI-FUR contest. We had some great letters, 10 of which will be contacted individually to receive a thank you package, which includes a free faux-fur coat, NOT!
The letter we found most effective in tone and intonation, was written to the fur council by R WORRELL and is posted below for you all to read. Thank you everyone for participating.
In the spirit of good politics and my belief that PERPETRATORS, VICTIMS AND BYSTANDERS are all one and the same, we are also going to award some of the people who wrote arguments for FUR, or neutral to fur. Your names or aliases are all listed below. Send us your shipping address to blog@mattandnat.com and we will be happy to send you the M&N gift package.

In simpler terms, I still don’t agree with slaughtering animals for our use, especially when not necessary. Until the laws of the land recognize this, we will have to keep screaming for those without a voice….
Today marks the 29th anniversary of Earth Day.

Buddha exists in us all….politics suck
PS- A big thanks to HSUS and Earthlings for their contribution to our gift packages. To read up on some informative and credible literature on the fur trade which cites a variety of reliable sources, please visit HSUS’ TOXIC FUR information booklet.
ONE OF THE WINNING LETTERS, BY R. WORRELL:
To your marketing staff;
I recently read your promotion, “fur is green”.
I was really impressed, but I started wondering about what shade of green you meant.
is it the shade of green that you see on the rotting flesh of foxes that were skinned alive?
is it the shade of green of the cash your ceo’s collect from the slaughter tens of thousands of
beautiful, sensitive baby seals as they are clubbed to death?
is it the green of the forest as it silently witnesses the agony of thousands its smallest residents as they cry in agony and attempt to chew off their own legs to escape the jaws of steel traps?
Maybe you made a mistake and you really meant red, because the production of fur means blood, SUffering and death. oceans of blood and entrails. screams, cries and howls of pain.
Beavers who are caught in traps; moose, caribou, wolves and deer that are shot using high-tech gimmicks (what ever happened to sportsmanship?), foxes and mink that are suffocated, strangled or electrocuted anally (heard that was quite a pleasant sensation — you really ought to try it sometime…).
you are really brave heroes to have killed all these animals. then made a profit from them. Then covered up the massacres. then using the very real urgency of global climate change as your “clever” advertising slogan.
However, there’s a problem with all this.
your moral repugnance has a stench that reaches to the heavens.

Psst…just for the record, my letter was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek! (I guess I didn’t do all that well.) I’m actually vegan!
Thanks so much for picking my letter as one of them, though!
